What is Six Sigma?

The 2009 program for The Global Six Sigma & Business Improvement Awards has been launched today at www.tgssa.com
Entrants are invited to submit their business improvement programs for three different types of categories - organizational, project or people. There is also a number of Special Awards which will identify the best achievement of organizational business improvement by a small organization, the best emerging business improvement deployment and best application of lean tools by a business excellence project.
The Global Six Sigma and Business Improvement Awards are giving to the most outstanding organizational achievements through the deployment of business improvement programs. The Awards will be judged by an independent panel of leading thinkers and practitioners within the global six sigma and business improvement community.
The Awards present a great opportunity for organizations to win recognition for the great work that their six sigma and business excellence people are delivering to customers, shareholders and other key stakeholders.
“It was an honor for Avis Budget Group to win Best Organizational Achievement in Lean Enterprise Improvement in the first year of our Lean Six Sigma deployment. The award process was thorough and it gave Avis Budget Group a tremendous platform to demonstrate the success our young Performance Excellence deployment has achieved. The Global Six Sigma Awards are open to all companies, both private and public sector, across the globe. Each entry will be judged on the merits of the program implementation and results achieved against the organization’s strategic objectives. The deadline for entries is Friday June 5th, 2009.
The winners of awards in 2008 included Avis Budget Group, BMO Financial Group, Capital One Bank, Delphi Powertrain Systems, Infosys BPO, Kenworth Truck Company, PAS Technologies, Sisters of St Francis Health Services Inc., Sonoco, Tocquigny and United Airlines. The prestigious Six Sigma & Business Improvement CEO of the Year Award was won by Mark Piggott of PACCAR Inc.

The Global Six Sigma and Business Improvement Awards program was established in 2006 to identify outstanding organizational success achieved through the application of Six Sigma methodologies. The 2008 program received entries from organizations based in Australia, Canada, India, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, South Africa, Turkey, the UK and the U.S.
